Dyed Sand

If you plan to go to a beach, or even if you have a sandbox/sand & water table in your yard, the kids will enjoy having colored sand to play with.  This recommends using non-toxic dye, and I did splurge on some of that when we went to the beach, but if you're doing this in your backyard, I think regular food dye would work just fine.  You could even have your kids save some of the sand in a small bottle as a keepsake (or am I just a relic from the 80s?).
